And then you hold a hand crossbow and a sword, and stab-shoot-cantrip every turn. Also have a parrot/monkey familiar.

A two lvl fighter dip would get you action surge, another fighting style (either duelist or defense) and a little bit of healing. Cleric is nice, maybe consider war domain for a free attack once or twice a day.
