We didn't take the guided tour because we like to do our own thing at our pace. How long you stay there really depends on what you like and at what speed you go round and what you decide you want to see and what you decide to leave out. We spent the whole afternoon there and it was most enjoyable. One thing to note is where you park your vehicle. Don't park it in the car park outside the walls near the main gate and leave it empty as we were told one or two incidents had occurred there. We were guided round to the left and to cross the little bridge over the moat which has a sentry on duty there and into another car park inside the castle walls where it's safe to leave it. I will be in Cape Town in August for a week. I know the castle is home to the Cape Town Highlanders and I wanted to know when the boys attend for their parade. I know they wear the Gordon tartan and as a former soldier in Australia who served in a Scottish Regiment who also wore the Gordon colours I would like to see them.

Hi ya the key ceremony at 10am is done in the old dutch uniform. Have not seen them in dress other then normal army camo uniform. But should be their in the next week again …
