As the others have said, opening times can vary but mornings are a safe bet and there are places outside the castello for lunch. The admission is fee is not a lot and it is well worth getting admission to the gardens as well for the maze and various follies. There is a website for the attraction, which might be handy for some further information. There is train station about 10 minutes walk away and parking close by if you are coming by car.
