Hi. We are a family group of 6 across 3 generations coming at Easter. I am completely confused about the differences between the tickets. My eldest child has autism and so no tolerance of people blocking his view or making too much noise around him if he's trying to concentrate on something so I am concerned about the large loud crowds and how that could detract from the experience. So I would like an option that means smaller groups. He also has adhd meaning he struggles to sit still so also would like an option that allows us to move around between different viewing areas and definitely wouldn't want to be indoors only. Can someone please add a bit more colour to the ticket option descriptions to help me choose? Thank you.

Firstly, I understand your concerns as we too have a child with ASD. All the penguin viewing is out doors The centre that you access the beach from is very spacious and open and the boardwalks to the beach are fairly wide. We visited the main viewing area which is a downward stepped concrete & bleacher style stand. The wildlife hosts address the crowd to explain what to expect, give some education about the penguins and request people to be quiet, respectful and not to use flash photography as the penguins are quite timid. If you arrive early, the crowds should be minimal through the centre and along the boardwalk and you will be able to choose a position on the stands that is best suited to your family’s needs. I would recommend calling or emailing an enquiry to the centre before you book to ask your questions and choose the best ticketing option. I’m sure they answer similar questions regularly and will be able to give helpful advice. The other option is researching a location on the island to see the penguins come home in the wild, with zero cost and less crowds as this is not the only place you can see them. If I were returning, that’s what I would do but I hate tourist attractions and am a regular off grid camper.

Do I need to book a tour to see the penguin parade or can I just drive myself?
答:
You can drive yourself but you will need to book your tickets on line, we booked the underground viewing area and it was well worth it.

Will be there in Aug. Which pass to buy if I hope to keep warm - underground view or vip tour?
答:
Underground is good value. Ground level with the penguins

Melbourne to Phillip island is approx 2 hour plus drive, just depends upon traffic. i think you may be best to arrange a proper tour on the area out of melbourne, i am sure they have servicing doing this to phillip island. getting to phillip island, i am tipping you could also catch train from flinders st, and get out at Cranbourne station, then i am sure there is a bus service from Cranbourne to Phillip island. if you drove straight from Cranbourne to Phillip island, is around one hour, but the bus may take longer as it stops along the way. if the bus drops you in township of Cowes on Phillip Island, you still need to get out to the phillip island reserve which is approx 20 minutes out of the main township of cowes, not sure if bus runs out to their, but maybe a local once does, you really need to go by car to this place to get around
