We are going on a cruise February 2018 to PNG, can you please tell me if you just organised a tour guide on the day or was this something that you organized before hand. Hi. It is fairly easy to organise a tour/guide when you get to port as there are a couple of companies set up in the terminal/shed you will need to walk through. Then there are a couple of options. You can organise a private group tour to go where you want to go or you can go on a tour with the itinary already set, to see the highlights of Rabaul including the volcano. The second option is possibly the one I would recommend, and have, and you will find it is far more economical than doing similar tour through booking on ship. That all said, if you waht to ensure you get on a tour and not risk missing out there is a company 'Koptours' who run a good tour. They will be at the port but you can contact them/book beforehand. One of their tours goes to 8 or 9 different places (including Mt Tavarvur) for about 20 minutes at each place for $85 each. No....I don't work for this company, but arranged this tour for a friend who uses a walker and she did it and loved it and was able to stay in the shuttle bus at places rather than get out. Hope this info helps.

My husband and I will be cruising to PNG in February and I was considering the "Volacano Tour", with the cruise line, though I note that you have said you were glad that you booked elsewhere? How did you do that and with whom? Did you wait until you arrived? Or booked on line prior to going? I would very much appreciate some feedback, as I would prefer to book my own on arrival, if this is actually an option (for all ports), though Google isn;t providing me with much informaiton to go on.
