An early morning hike down part of South Kaibab Trail is always an exhilarating way to start the day. Ooh-Aah Point or Cedar Ridge are popular destinations for day-hikers on the trail. Especially in the summer, you want to get your hiking done in the morning. It'll take 1-3hours depending on how far you decide to go. Take the orange shuttle from the visitor center to reach the trailhead. Bring adequate water and maybe some salty snacks. Besides the views right in the village itself, there are great viewpoints to the west along Hermit Road. During the spring, summer, and winter, you'll use the free shuttle to get to them. In the winter, you'll use your own car. About 3 hours will cover it. There are also a series of great viewpoints to the easy along Desert View Drive. It is only reachable with your own vehicle. Takes about 3 hours to cover it.
Hello ! I shall stay few days in Las Vegas and my plan is to make a one day trip to the Grand Canyon. However, I have no idea what to visit first. Can you tell me what can I visit ? What are the highlights of the area ? What should I see first ? What can I visit in a one day trip? Thank you

It depends on what you mean by a one day trip. If you mean driving out and back the same day, that really only gives you maybe 5 hours to look around. If you mean staying overnight, that obviously gives you more time to fully explore. If you leave LV at round 7am, it's a 5 hour drive, so you'd get there about noon. If you want to get back to LV at a decent time, you'd probably leave the canyon at 5pm. In those 5 hours, you could park at the visitor center, walk out behind it to Mather Point to get your first look at the canyon. Then walk along the rim trail to the Bright Angel Lodge area. From there, you could take a short hike down some of the Bright Angel Trail. Coming back up, you could get some food at various places and go souvenir shopping. Now, if you planned to stay overnight, that would give you more time to do other things like to see the viewpoints along Hermit's Rest Road via the shuttle bus or to drive to viewpoints on Desert View Drive and to take a hike on some of the South Kaibab Trail. If you're planning to stay overnight, it's more convenient to stay inside the park. If that's too pricey or they're totally booked (which happens often), stay outside in Tusayan.
Would like to know what the weather will be like in June and where we should stay in the area that is not full of tourist? We will have a car and flying into Flagstaff.

You can't really avoid tourists, it is the Grand Canyon after all. But it is a huge place, so it's not like you'll be packed wall-to-wall. If your concern is not to have too much hustle and bustle as you step out in the morning, then you probably don't want to stay right on the rim at places like Bright Angel Lodge, El Tovar, Thunderbird Lodge. If you stay further back, say at Maswik or Yavapai, it's more quiet. Yes, you can stay very, very far away from the South Rim, but then what's the point in coming?
