Is there a security check or metal detectors? Need to know because i dont go into the city without protection for my family. I know the Smithsonian museums have them I've never been to this place

No there were no metal detectors. I don't know what their policy is regarding entry with firearms.

Its a high density major shopping area so you have tons of choices. If you can, stop by Chocolate Chocolate, a sweets chocolataire run by 2 daughters in honor of their mother who escaped North Korea.
