Hello! The ruins are open in October and you don't need to book a toured guide to get in there. The opening hours are: Summer: Monday: 13.00-19.30 Tuesday-Friday: 08.00-19.30 Winter (From 1st November to 31st March): 08:30-15:00 You can buy the ticket on site, the cost is 6 EUR per adult. If you want to get there from Heraklion with a public transport, you should go to the Bus Station A. The buses departure leave every 30-45 minutes. The ticket prce for a public bus Hearklion-Malia is 4 EUR. You should ask the driver or the drivers assistant for help with choosing the right stop to exit the bus. You can take a bus from the main station in Heraklion. Make sure to get on a bus going to "Malia Antiquities" (bus #38 I think) ask the kid selling tickets on the bus to tell you when to get off. The bus stop is up the road from the palace. I think the fee is still 4€, not much! There is a small cafe at the site but not much on food. It's good for a coffe or a soda. Also if you keep going down the road, you will come to the beach. There are more food options there. A beachside restaurant and an insane food truck that has it all!!! If you look along the shore and in the rocks, you can find a lot of broken pottery shards still left over from the giant tsunami that destroyed the Minoan culture 3,600 years ago. It's an excellent day trip!!
