Almost 20 years after their arrest, the five remaining members of the Bali Nine, who have been serving life sentences in Indonesia, will return to Australia following successful negotiations by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“In Peru, the Australian prime minister made the request for the transfer of Australian prisoners with President Prabowo,” Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Indonesia’s co-ordinating minister for legal affairs, human rights, immigration and corrections, told the publication.

Indonesia has agreed to send home the five remaining members of Australia’s Bali Nine serving life sentences for drug trafficking following a plea from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
