The Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday its intention to remove oral phenylephrine, a common ingredient in over-the-counter cough and cold medicines, from the market.

Officials say whooping cough cases are rising in San Antonio and show a 230% increase from the cases reported the prior year.

A total of 281 whooping cough cases have been recorded since Monday in Dane County, per county health officials.
