Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, who served as the Minister of External Affairs from 2009 to 2012, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 92. S M Krishna served as the chief minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004, and was credited with transforming Bengaluru into the Silicon Valley of India.

Rememebering his interactions with Krishna, PM Modi said he will always cherish those moments. "I am deeply saddened by his passing. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," said the PM.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna, who passed away at 92, considered John F. Kennedy his political guru. As a law student, Krishna campaigned for Kennedy in 1960. Kennedy, upon winning, sent a thank-you note acknowledging Krishna's support.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna passed away at his residence early Tuesday morning, his family said. The 92-year-old veteran politician was ailing for quite some time, a family source said.

Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and Minister of External Affairs, passed away on Tuesday at 92. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2023 for his six-decade-long political career.

Krishna began his political journey in 1962, winning the Maddur assembly seat as an independent and later joining the Congress party.
