A Georgia officer shot and killed a family dog after it apparently attacked him while responding to a call last week.

An officer shot and killed a dog after it bit a policeman in Northwest, D.C. Wednesday evening, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after officers shot and killed a dog they say charged at them, biting one, in Northwest D.C. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened in the 6700 block of Piney Branch Rd. around 6 p.m.

A family has been left heartbroken after their dog was shot dead by cops responding to a “swatting” call at their home in Georgia. The incident unfolded at around 9 p.m. on December 2 when police were called to a home in Cobb County, Atlanta, following a report that a voice was heard shouting “help me” from the property.

Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer said there is an active investigation into what happened, which he believes will provide answers to the department on how such incidents are handled.
