2019年8月22日 · Updating this, as my job appears to finally be complete (knock-on wood). I initially tried to follow the 'DIY: Subaru CV Boots' video on youtube that's been posted here before; I wanted to avoid taking off the axles if possible since I'm still fairly 'green' when it comes to car projects like this, and I was intimidated by the prospects of removing/re-installing the axles.

If you can afford (time & money) to reboot your own axles, go for it! I can't justify it right now. Replacement Axles-- Brand new Suby axles cost $300-400. OEM remanufactured axles cost $150-200 ...

I cannot find any DIY videos on YouTube for the outer CV boot, and a few posts here indicate the entire shaft must be replaced. Is this true? If not, what special tools are required for the repair? However, I do not know if this is called a CV Boot or goes by another name. I'm hoping to order one and replacing it myself but I don't know what brand to go buy or what exactly it's called. 2019年6月14日 · I've had a mildly torn CV boot for about 5000 miles, and while recently driving on a rough trail road, it completely split open dumping grease all over my exhaust. I cleaned it up, and drove a couple hundred miles to get home. I understand from read the forums, that rebooting is sometimes sufficient instead of replacing the axles.

2017年5月23日 · I couldn’t find a split boot for my '06 either. In the end, I ended up doing a proper boot replacement in a couple of hours with boots from NAPA. I understand your reluctance to tear down the front end, but in the end, a lasting repair will be worth the trouble. Now if your going to sell soon, the band-aid approach may be more tempting.
