Nov 23, 2020 · As others have pointed out, gold is too heavy and too soft. For direct comparison, Iron is a 4.5 on the Moh's hardness scale and Gold is 2.5. And most swords in the middle ages were hardened steel (7-8). Lead has a hardness of 1.5, and people in the 19th century used to cut through bars of it to demonstrate their skill.
