2023年12月1日 · Bud Larsen built his first Hardanger fiddle when he was in the seventh grade. Now 80 years old, he’s built more than 40 of the instruments and repaired well over 100. He learned the craft from Gunnar Helland, who ran a violin shop in Fargo, N.D., and was a member of a famous fiddle making family in Norway.

2023年10月26日 · This Hardanger fiddle has distinctively high archings and a warm, burnished sound: it was made in Hardanger, Norway by T.E. Fladebo. The inscribed 1621 date is disputed, of course, but it's thought that the instrument could be one of the few surviving Hardanger fiddles from the 17th century.

Shetland had had a two-stringed instrument called a “gue” - whether bowed or unbowed I don’t know - which died out in due course after the Scottish takeover and the advent of the violin.

A Hardanger fiddle (or in Norwegian: hardingfele) is a traditional stringed instrument used originally to play the music of Norway. In modern designs, this type of fiddle is very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and thinner wood.
