He's a fair wrencher at best (and was much less talented back then) and tackling a CV boot was pretty bold for him.

Sep 24, 2006 · The cover on the outside cv that the boot is clamped to can be tapped off and that allows the joint to be taken apart. The nut can be removed with the wheel on the car. I ended up using a deep 11/4" impact socket with a long pipe on the breaker bar.

Dec 1, 2011 · I've used the Oetiker type clamps several times on hoses and those suckers are a bear to cut off with a good pair of cutters. CV clamps are the same. BTW I do have the right tool. I got the ones that do front and side crimping to cover my bases McMaster-Carr (this page is the CV boot-type clamps. see page 262 for the tool)

Use 3 m weather strip adhesive and glue the boots to the rings then secure boots with narrow german hose clamps from pelican or high quality zipties. The steel clamps from the factory are to small in circumference to fit around the offroad boots. Just did a full refresh on my 930 axles last fall with 55k miles the cvs were like new.

Sep 18, 2010 · I seem to remember seeing this allen bolt fix someplace else on Pelican .. but I can't find where. I had 2 outer CV boots tear this year (on new lobro axles installed last year) ... very irritating. I did mine with 6 M4x8 allen bolts. 3 probably would have worked just fine.
