My recommendation is to make whiskey forward and complimentary cocktails, such as an old fashioned. Start with a ratio that you can drink but still has some kick. Once your whiskey/mixer ratio is somewhere around 95/5, try whiskey straight on the rocks with little sips. Then, after you are good on that, try whiskey with just a few drops of water.
