This ex Chessie SD35 was the trailing unit on 397. I never saw another TORCO unit. I have wondered since who they were, and what became of that engine, though by now its probably long scrapped.

The Toledo Ore Company was co-owned by Chessie and Conrail, later CSX and Conrail. When CSX assumed control of part of Conrail (with Norfolk Southern getting the other half), CSX assumed full control of TORCO.

There were three Chessie System locomotives that were based at a C&O subsidiary the Toledo Ore Company Railway (TORCO) (#7800-7802). These engines were based in Toledo but did come to Cumberland for maintenance. They were the only Chessie System locomotives that carried sub-letters other than B&O, C&O, or WM.

I took an un-numbered Atlas factory painted Chessie SD35 and lettered it for Torco. I used Microscale decal set 87-400 which has the Chessie diesel decals. It includes the TORCO decals to do one SD35 model.

Chessie System TORCO 7800 - Model Railroader Magazine
TORCO (Toledo Ore Railroad Company) was a C+O subsidiary that continued on to Chessie System and CSX. In 1982 three Chessie System SD-35's were sold to the subsidiary and renumber to 7800,7801, and 7802. The locomotives were remote controlled equipped for use at the ore dock in Toledo.
