Ventastega (Venta referring to the Venta River at the Ketleri Formation where Ventastega was discovered [2]) is an extinct genus of stem tetrapod that lived during the Upper Fammenian of the Late Devonian, approximately 372.2 to 358.9 million years ago. [2]

Ventastega and Pederpes
Ventastega curonica (Ahlberg et al. 2008 Frasnian, Late Devonian ~365 mya; ~1m length, 20 cm skull) was derived from a sister to Ichthyostega and was basal to Pederpes and Whatcheeria. Although limbs were not found, the pectoral and pelvic girdles are those of limbed tetrapods.

Ventastega is one of the earliest Devonian tetrapods yet discovered. Given two preferred orientations of the bones and the geological context in which Ventastega was found suggests a tidal-sea influence. However, like Tiktaalik, Ventastega was probably more aquatic than terrestrial.
