Is it "damping" or "dampening" when referring to sound?
2012年5月11日 · On the Wikipedia page for damping (music), there are instances of dampening. NOAD lists as a subsidiary definition, "reduce the amplitude of (a sound source)." M-W and Random House both acknowledge that it has the same meaning in music as to damp. In an informal context, dampen is fine.

When we look at the usage of the action to dampen and the usage of the action to moisten, then often times dampening something (such as a towel) would require more water than to moisten something (such as the mouth).
Use the word "higher" or "more" when referring to costs?
Is it proper to say that "the cost of X is more than the cost of Y" or "the cost of X is higher than the cost of Y"? Or are they interchangeable?
