Our literature review demonstrates that a daily dressing regime of 2.5–3% acetic acid is a well-tolerated treatment regime in burn patients and that it is in use in UK burns services.

The study aims to establish the optimal dose of acetic acid (0.5% or 2%) when applied over 3 days to burn wounds colonised by bacteria in patients admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The burns wounds will require colonisation with a specific, identifiable bacteria and bacterial load will be studied by the microbiology department.
