You can get a lot of 5.1 all in one box home theatre systems from Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer for a similar price to the logitech setup and are better quality. There is nothing wrong with using a home theatre system rather than a "multimedia" system for your PC.

If you take the route of buying a rig, I'd estimate that you'd probably break even on your sale of your laptop. They can all live on a single drive. Why is gaming in a VM problematic? The guest system in the VM will NOT play as well as in the host system.

That's good there. However, this was for my intel build, and temperatures within a case I think are different from the ones you should get in a laptop.

If your laptop is on your lap, it obviously helps, if it is on a desk, it will still lower temps, but not by a lot (depending on your interpretation of a lot). The other option you have, which depends on your CPU, is undervolting. Note that only some laptop CPUs can have their voltages changed.
